![]() The non-sticky side of the 3M tape faces the carbon shoe sole. I attached 3M 233+ "high performance" (green) masking tape to the sole protector plate, and trimmed tape to correct shape. ![]() I previously tried scuffing the carbon sole, rough sanding one side of protector plate, and applying "friction paste" between sole and protector plate - all with marginal benefit.įinally I tried a new mounting method to prevent slip of cleats, and after 2 weeks, including some races, it seems to WORK! It was always a delicate balance between cleat screws that were loose enough to allow proper cleat operation, yet tight enough to prevent slipping of the cleat relative to show - the smooth carbon sole and sheet metal protector plate is a very slippery interface.įor me, cleat slipping might occur on harder, out-of-saddle pedaling (500+ watts). The "sole protector" plate is thin, smooth, stainless steel sheet metal, die cut into the correct shape. ![]() Note that a Speedplay, sheet metal, "sole protector" plate is mandatory & required between the cleat and the shoe, else the shoe's carbon sole will get chewed up. I've been using Speedplay Zero cleats direct mounted to Sidi Ergo3 "SP sole" shoes, and no 4-to-3 hole adapter plate is required - makes for a clean, tidy, low stack height installation.
